2015 marks the 139th Ione Homecoming Parade in Ione, California, one of the oldest continuous running celebrations in the state.
It began as a reunion between the folks of Ione and the settlers from the surrounding area forced to either purchase their lands a second time or move away after title to the the land of the historic Rancho Arroyo Seco Mexican Land Grant were confirmed by President Abe Lincoln in the early 1860s.
The first gathering was on Shakeley Hill west of town and eventually moved to its current location in Howard Park where the picnic continue to today.
Every year since 1876, the parade continues down Main Street with the exception of perhaps WWII when most celebrations in the U.S. were suspended.
The parade is one of the oldest continuous parades in the Mother Lode, California and in the U.S.A.
Besides the parade on Main Street, there's kids' events including pet show and frog jump, a ranch rodeo, little league games, an aerial candy drop and the Ione Alumni Association dinner where many decades of graduates from Ione High School dine and socialize for their annual reunion.
