Burano and Murano, Venice, Italy 105 images Created 27 Mar 2018
Not too far away from the crowds and bustle of the main islands of Venice are two gems, one a short distance and the other a longer, multi-segment ride via vaporetto (water bus): the islands of Murano and Burano. Each is distinct yet both seem a world away.
Murano is the closer of the two. It's known for its colorful glass and in another era, was kept a secret from the world (and kept the flames of the glass furnaces from burning down Venice!)
Burano, on the other hand, is lesser known. It's famed for the intricate hand-made lace and more remarkable, for the colorfully painted buildings, each bold and bright.
Burano also is known for its very own, not-too-famous leaning tower, the Campanile of San Martino church.
