  • The Hawthorne Ordnance Museum has a collection of the bomb and ammo that have been manufactured at the Hawthorne Army Depot throughout the years. They hope to become a certified museum in the near future...In the forground is the "USS Nevada" a torpedo made into a submarine that once was at the gate of the Navy Underwater Warfare Center, Hawthorne.

There are 120 red, white, and blue painted bomb fins placed there by workers from HWAD in May 2003.

  • Bob Stewart and Rowena Neal enjoy fishing at Sportman's Beach at Walker Lake as a break from clean-up of their Fallon Ranch...This week no fish; last week two. Since the early part of the 1900s, Walker Lake has dropped many, many feet. Says Neal a graduate of Mineral County High School, Hawthorne, they used to catch seven pounders regularly. As the lake has dryed and gotten more salty, fewer and smaller fish...As Neal said, "The worst day fishing, is better than the best day at work."..Both Stewart and Neal are retired and travel with their fifth wheel trailer and fish a lot.
